Forget busy as a bee. I am so busy that bees hide their heads in shame.
I'm back at work for the spring, and I think this year is shaping up to be even busier than last year. I really love my job. I don't think I could handle this insane schedule if I didn't.
The cold tolerant veggies are slowly getting planted. Potatoes are done: 50 lbs of Yukon Gold. Last year we did 50 Yukon and 50 Kennebec, but we prefer the Yukon so we're going with those this year. Last year was a blight year, and we were lucky to get any potatoes. The ones we got were nice, mostly thanks to the trick of sulfering the seed.
Carrots, radishes, lettuce, and green onion seeds are in the ground. Peas are still waiting to be planted, as are the onion sets. Hopefully, that will happen this weekend.
We've had a lot of cold nights recently, so all of the seeds have been taken out of the cloches and brought inside. Every available surface in my home is covered with flats of seedlings and seedlings-to-be. And of course I have a lot more to start, as soon as I make time to get them planted.
So...that's my life in a nutshell right now. I spend my mornings, after getting ready for work, stretching (a must before the bike ride to work), drinking coffee, looking over Little Sis' schoolwork from the previous day and making her list of assignments. My evenings are spent with Little Sis, gardening, trying to catch up the housework, and rushing to get to bed as early as possible.
Eöl has been amazing with taking up the slack here at home, and Little Sis helps out, as well. I still get to spend lots of time with Little Sis, but I miss my days with Eöl. Lots of love notes, texts, and emails...and some pretty amazing weekends. ;)
If I don't post for a while, I'm either up to my ears in planting, or lying on the side of the road, dead from exhaustion. Just look for the orange vest. There'll probably be a crowd of cows nearby.
