The weather this week has been nothing short of spectacular! Friday we had sunshine, temps in the mid 80's, and I wore shorts for the first time this year. Other people wore sunglasses to spare themselves the glare from my uber white legs.
Today was also nice, but windy. I think we had gusts in excess of 50 mph. Needless to say, not much got done outside. I did take a few cuttings from the herbs that are already above ground (oregano and english thyme) and some from the rosemary I kept inside in pots. I'll be taking a few more tomorrow as I hope to start enough plants to have some to sell at the Farmer's Market.
Tick season is apparently in full swing. Two ticks in two days so far. Hopefully the guineas will keep them under control. I think we need more guineas, though. How many ticks can two guineas eat, anyway? Not enough, that's for sure!
Our Easter plans are different this year, thanks to our Holiday Boycott. We've opted out of the big dinner, wasted day in the kitchen type holiday. Tomorrow, it'll be just the three of us, spending the day hiking in the woods, working on Little Sis' Woodland Camp (something she and Eöl have devised), roasting hot dogs on a fire that Little Sis will build herself, and just hanging out. And, if the weather takes a turn for the wet, we'll maybe head to the movies. She will, of course, have the requisite visit from the Easter Bunny. No reason she shouldn't have as many plastic eggs and chocolate bunnies as the other kids did at her age, just because mom and dad are old and tired.
It's not that we don't love the rest of the kids and extended family. Big Sis and Big Brother are out of state and out of the country; Biggest Brother, Polly Pocket, and the grand kids were just here last weekend and not likely to make the trip again so soon; the in-laws aren't local; the grandparents (my parents) are also hiding out in hopes of a quiet day...a lesson from our elders, I suppose. That just leaves the three of us, and no reason to cook a huge meal, spend a gorgeous day inside, dress up in itchy clothes or uncomfortable shoes. It should be a lot of fun, and may set a precedent for future holidays.
Happy Easter, everyone!!
