Miss Hummer smacked head on into our window this morning. Lucky for her, we were having coffee on the patio when it happened, and I was able to grab her before the cat did. She was only stunned, and flew off after about five minutes.
Little Sis gave her a snack before she left. How cool is that? I love seeing the hummers, and holding a live one was just incredible!

That is completely awesome. Honestly, I don't think I have ever seems a hummingbird that close, other than a twittering nature video of one. SO gorgeous - she almost looks like a painted sculpture.
THAT IS THE MOST FREAKING AWESOME THING I'VE EVER SEEN. Way Cool...WOW! I'm so jealous. I have all kinds of hummingbirds in my backyard thanks to my verbena. I even had one build a nest on our patio once. Sweet.
City Mouse, you are right, she does look like a sculpture...or a fishing lure (according to DH..don't worry, he doesn't fish lol) I love that you can see her tiny eyelashes in the picture. I think they are teensy feathers.
Vamp, I can't believe you had a NEST!!! That would be so cool. I was just telling DH that I wish I could see a hummingbird nest. I hear they are really tiny.
Last year I found a dead hummer on the patio. I think he smacked into the glass, too, but didn't survive. We still have him in the freezer (until DH figures out how to mummify him.)
Very cool! So rare to see one still.
True, Tipper! Thanks for the comment.
I have to admit we've not seen many hummingbirds this year in my neck of the woods. We have some avid feeders who also take hundreds of photos yearly. You have some great close-ups.
WOW! Awesome photos. I have rescued a few birds after they have whacked into windows too. It's amazing to have that little body in your hand, isn't it?
