I do realize that lately my blog doesn't have much to do with homesteading. And yet, maybe this does, because life happens, even to those of us living the simple life. My Despicable Me post isn't about facebook. It isn't about tree trimmers or spayed cats. It's about how, when life suddenly smacks you in the face with something you never expected (like a codfish), people whining about completely inconsequential crap can make you a little crazy. Or a lot crazy. I felt the need to vent, and I still do, so if you are afraid of getting splattered with some evil, pull out the plastic sheets (a la Gallagher). In the next few weeks, this could get messy. Or maybe it won't. Life is unpredictable.
From Despicable Me, Part 1:
I don't care about your petty issues because facebook knocked you off my friend's list. I don't care if the tree trimmers take down every tree by the power lines. I absolutely do not give a flying frog's ass if the cat is in heat. Don't even talk to me about building a radio or any other addition to my million and one chores. And most of all, whatever you do, don't let me hear you've been gossiping about me.
As you can tell from the Despicable Me post, not only do I love that movie and that song, but a lot is going on in our lives right now (no, it has nothing to do with facebook, Eöl and I are not splitting up, my house didn't fall into a sinkhole, and I have not been abducted by aliens). We're debating about keeping it completely private. Even though I blog, I am a VERY private person, and don't usually divulge a lot of personal information. And nothing pisses me off faster than to have a trusted friend divulge my personal info/worries/sorrows/etc to others (thus the "gossiping about me" part of that post, which I suppose moves that person to the no longer trusted friend category...not someplace you'd want to be, because I am a vengeful, spiteful, mean, and ruthless bitch....Oh, did I say that out loud?).
The facebook thing, well, FB glitched, I guess, or maybe my account got hacked...it all happened about the time I received notice of an attempt to access my account...anyway, several people were dropped from my friends list. There are only a couple of people that post regularly enough that I would notice if they were missing, so really, I had no idea until I started getting some pretty whiny, cranky, and even rude messages. Really?? (You have to say that out loud with a sort of *sigh of exasperation* to receive full effect.) I am so annoyed with the whole thing that I think I'll just use my FB to keep in touch with out of state relatives, and just forget about the rest of it. I don't post much, anyway, but it comes in handy when life is rushed, just to let distant family know we are alive and well. I am shocked at how seriously some people take the whole 'friends list' thing. If you want to be my friend, it requires a bit more than 'friending me' on FB, you know?
The rest of that post should be pretty self-explanatory. I'm tired. I'm stressed. I'm very worried. Petty stuff is just making me want to punch someone in the face or burst into tears. Heh. Guess which is most likely to happen.

Do you think it's weird...
Do you think it's weird when an acquaintance remembers dates important to your family? For instance, someone you know (not a close friend) sends birthday greetings for your children, asks about your anniversary, or, even more oddly, keeps a countdown to your grandchild's due date.
Are they just being nice? Maybe expressing an interest in your life to show they'd like to be closer friends?
Or is it creepy? Maybe just nosy? Perhaps they are looking for gossip fodder?
What do you think?
Ps...for those of you that have asked: Yes, I will be expounding on the last entry....later on, when I have more energy.

Despicable Me
I'm havin' a bad, bad day.
It's about time that I get my way.
Steam rollin' whatever I see.
Huh.
Despicable me.
I'm havin' a bad, bad day.
If you take it personal, that's ok.
Watch. This is so fun to see.
Huh.
Despicable me.
Yeah. It's a lot like that.
Then something worse happens, and you think, "Wow, that last thing was only annoying compared to this. This is a really bad thing."
Something even worse happens, and suddenly, that first thing is nothing but a gnat in your fruit salad by comparison.
Sometimes things happen that way. Everything is put into perspective by that last, and most important, event. Nothing else matters but getting it taken care of. You are stressed, worried, and tired.
That's where I am right now. I am at the breaking point. I am ready to steamroll anything in my way.
I don't care about your petty issues because facebook knocked you off my friend's list. I don't care if the tree trimmers take down every tree by the power lines. *shrugs* Despicable me.

Man Vs. Wild
Man Vs Wild, the tv show. Just saw it for the first time via library dvd. All I can say is:
ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME??!!
***headdesk***

Maybe I just need a little cat nap
I think I got up too early. Did you ever have one of those days where you just can't concentrate? Or you find yourself repeating yourself? Did you ever have one of those days where you just can't concentrate?
It seems as if every time someone has spoken to me today, I've spaced out and missed half the conversation. Several times I've walked into a room and completely forgotten what I went in there for. I opened the fridge to look for my keys and forgot to open the flue when I was adding wood to the fire. (I am not kidding.)
I'm pretty sure my grammar is off. **yawns** I'm too tired to care. I think I'll do my chores and try for that cat nap.
Or maybe I'll just find a pile of kittens and fall asleep now. :)

Time to start plants!!
It's that time again! I'm hoping to get some seeds started this weekend, at least tomatoes and peppers, as they take the longest to germinate.
We're once again trying something new with the garden. The plan is to have more of a mixed planting, rather than a tomato patch, onion patch, etc. This, along with plenty of companion flowers, should help keep the pests at bay.
I also have our new flock of guineas to help with our natural pest control. We had a bit of an issue late in last year's season with Leaf Footed Nymphs. This was the first time I'd seen them, and boy there were a LOT! We just tossed some feed to coax the guineas to the right spot, and they took care of the rest. No more nymphs, and no pesticides involved. I was pretty happy with that arrangement.
In fact, now that last year's guineas will be breeding age, we're hoping to hatch some more. Ok, a LOT more. I'm even planning to give some to our neighbors. After all, the more guineas roaming the neighborhood, the fewer ticks and other pests we'll have to deal with.

Too early for chick days?
There's just two, but the second pic was the only close up that was in focus. These guys are camera hogs.
They hatched out over the past couple of days from one of our broody bantams. You know how they are... Neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night...oh, wait, that's the post office.
I never expected any of the hens to go broody in the middle of winter. In fact, I'd just about given up on having broody hens, period. Then last year our bantams hatched a couple of broods. One bantam gal even hatched some heavy breed eggs that Little Sis snuck underneath her. It was too funny to see her leading around chicks as big as she was.
What kind of bantams do we have? I have no idea!! They are free range, which means that the new chicks are all mixed breed. It also means that, right now, with snow on the ground, they are all hanging out and pooping right outside the back door.
Anyway, the new little guys are happily peeping in the kitchen and think Little Sis is their mama. Their real mama hen is still sitting on the nest and can't be bothered with chasing them around. Besides, it's mega cold and icy outside, and the cats (which have never bothered chicks before) are thinking maybe it's time for a McNugget Happy Meal.

Ice Storm
We didn't get the 16 inches of snow that was predicted. Shortly after my last post, the forecast changed to all ice. Personally, I'd prefer the snow. We're in for another half inch of ice and 1-3 inches of sleet tonight. Joy. *rolls eyes*
So we are re-prepping. I am finishing up the laundry right now. I hauled yesterday's prep water from the tub to the washing machine; no sense in wasting perfectly clean water, ya know? Now everyone can get hot showers before I refill the tub.
With another half inch of ice on top of what's out there now, I'll be surprised if we still have power tomorrow. Pleasantly surprised, though. :)
