Beep.
So you'll forgive me if this post is scattered. But look!! I'm here two days in a row!! Can I get a Woot Woot??
Margaritas are good after a long, hot day in the garden. Also, cold pumpkin pie is good, and I happen to have made two pies today. I'm a multi-tasker.
The planting is, (apparently eternally) ALMOST, done. I have more tomatoes I want to plant if I can find room. I can make some room by moving all of those flats out of the garden and into the farmer's market, so that's the plan.
Speaking of the farmer's market, I'm not hoping to get rich quick, retire, or live off of my earnings. For this year, I'll settle for making a few bucks to pay for my seeds. The hard part is figuring out where to buy supplies. Where the heck do people get those little plastic quart baskets, other than saving them from the grocery store? Most market sellers won't let you take the basket, anyway, they just dump the contents into a bag for you. Makes sense when you figure out those things cost about 25 cents each.
Oh, yeah, and back to the garden: I still have rutabagas to plant, as well as cukes (yes I am aware they are late getting in but Little Sis has polished off last year's pickle supply so I have no choice but to grow some and wow look no punctuation I should not be allowed to drink and post).
I will be glad when the planting is done just so I can stop planting in my sleep. Does this happen to anyone else? Every night I dream I am planting stuff in the garden.
Oh, look, I just accidentally posted this unfinished post. Yep, no more tequila and posting for me! I think I'll go to bed before I do something really stupid like use the wrong form of 'there' as in "Their are too many tomatoes in my garden." Ha!

Just one more day...
..and the planting will be done. I hope.
I can't believe how late I am getting stuff out this year. Then again, my garden is bigger than ever, the weather doesn't always cooperate, and sometimes other stuff takes priority.
I don't have totals yet. I can say that there are over 200 tomato plants, 300 pepper plants, squash, melons, herbs, beans, cabbages, lettuce...**gasps for air**...and maybe some other stuff I can't remember, already planted. I think this is my first year of successive planting, and it wasn't intentional.
I did my very first farm market and really enjoyed it. I'll admit, I was nervous at first. Eöl laughed at me, said they weren't going to throw rocks and I had no reason to worry, I'd have fun...and he was right. No rocks and it was fun talking to so many different people, mostly about gardening. When people asked for specific plants, I wrote those down so I'd be sure to have them next year. I particularly enjoyed the young couples planning their first garden, giving them growing tips and explaining the attributes of various plants. Yes, it's a little late for veggie plants, but our farm market was off to a late start, and many people aren't finished planting yet due to the wet (sopping, soggy, lose a boot) ground. No, I didn't make a fortune, but that's really not what it's about, is it?
As you can see, I've been pretty busy. But I hope to blog a bit more regularly, at least until harvest starts.
Oh, another thing Eöl was right about: I'm a brown stick. **falls out of chair laughing**

'cause mom said to
Yep, I'm updating my blog 'cause my mom told me to. lol **Waves to mom** She pointed out that I hadn't posted since the 20th of last month. yikes.
So..here I am. Where have I been? Take your pick: work, garden, errands, or riding out the storms.
The garden is taking, literally, ages. Yes, it's a big garden. I'm getting pretty tired of the, "What do you mean you don't have your garden out yet?" gaping guffaw of the postage stamp gardener. My garden is done entirely by hand (not even a tiller). I can't tell you how big it is because I have no clue. I know it is at least 12,000 square feet. Yes, that is twelve thousand, not a typo.
The last comment along those lines (you don't have your garden out!?) was just a few days ago. I replied that I had a start on it, had at least 50 of my tomato plants out, 60 beans, a few odds and ends, but had so much left to do. The attitude changed pretty quickly from ha ha to oh my gosh I only have about five tomato plants. Funny how that happens, isn't it?
Once I have the garden out, I'll do a garden post with a list of plants, how many of each, blah blah blah. It may be boring to some of you, but it's easy access info for me for next year.
I probably could've had the garden done already if not for the storms. The weather is just nuts. It's been extremely hot for this time of year, not to mention humid with rain and storms like I haven't seen in years. I don't mind planting in the rain, but we've had some torrential downpours that you really wouldn't want to be caught in. I was lucky enough to make it home from work, via bike, before a particularly bad storm rolled in. By the way, biking in an overcast, ominous, thunder filled atmosphere is nothing short of SUPER COOL!!!
I hope to be back to posting on a regular basis in a week or so. If not, I'm probably dueling bean beetles, wrestling slugs (slippery little buggers), or racing thunderstorms on my bike.
ps..overlook the typos. It's late, I'm tired, and I think I hear slugs munching on my seedlings.
