Someone in our neighborhood recently got a donkey. It's awesome to hear the roo's crowing across the valley at each other and then an answering "hee-haw!" from the donkey.
I think that's one of the best things about living in the country - the sounds. We have birds singing all day, flying squirrels chirruping at night, roosters crowing, hens clucking, ducks quacking, geese honking, guineas squawking, and now a donkey braying...among the zillion other sounds (crickets, cicadas, cats, dogs, etc).
Sometimes it's just nice to stop and listen.

uh oh
H1N1, better known as Swine Flu, has been declared pandemic. The weird thing is that I have not heard diddly about the flu for weeks now.
When it first was discovered, it was all over the news, top story at every hour. Then *poof*... Nothing. What gives?
Ok, I know I've been out of touch and haven't seen or heard much news, but I still catch those top of the hour Fox News blurbs, and haven't heard a thing about the flu. Did they think we'd forget if they didn't remind us?
Thankfully, the flu so far isn't as bad as expected, though even WHO is telling us it could get worse with more severe symptoms and more deaths. Lots of hand washing going on around here, but we normally do that anyway, so maybe that will be something in our favor.
In other news...
I'm still working but am moving to three days a week. I'm glad to be keeping my job as I really enjoy what I do and I really really enjoy the paycheck. Moving to three days a week will free up time to get more done around here, as well, so maybe it's the best of both worlds? We'll see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
The garden is finally almost done. I know it's late to be getting some of this stuff out, but what can I do? Melons and amaranth are the last things on my list to put out, so after this weekend we'll only have weeding, harvesting, tending, etc, to deal with. Then it's on to firewood. **falls over from exhaustion**
