I feel heavy, bogged down by snowsuits, wool socks and mittens, boots caked with snow.
I feel heavy, laden with the extra winter pounds brought on by cold weather, comfort foods, and carbs.
I feel heavy, slogging through knee deep snow. Nothing goes fast. Dreamers, running as though underwater, sprint past me.
Spring will soon bring boots heavy with mud, fresh asparagus from the garden, the bright green of leaf lettuce.
Spring will bring the shedding of snowsuits and the shedding of extra pounds; a lightening of the air, the light, and the spirit.

Right on, my country friend. I've been walk/running everyday and even got on the whole "eating right" train - I've lost 15 pounds! (Don't be too impressed. I'm aiming for 50.) Winter is a drag, but ... we're pretty close. Spring's a-comin',
You summed it up for me, also. Very well said.
Seems like we all are on the same path. I added about 10 pounds since Tnanksgiving and have not been very faithful to my diet or exercise lately. I would feel so much better if I had City Mouse's enthusiasm.
We can do it! Very good post - and comments. I'm pumped! :)
Oops. I may have said Country Mouse -- not sure. Slip of the tongue. lol.
Yup - that about sums it up - heavy and ya know what, spring is just around the corner...I heard birds chatting all morning, the light woke me up, the maple sap is starting to run a little...it will come. I started treadmillin (just too fricken cold out to walk) and already I feel a lightness of being if not body...
I just can't wait for spring. Actually, as soon as I can see the ground again, I'll start expanding the potato plot, so that will be a different kind of exercise.
Out here, exercise consists of daily chores like hauling water and feed, and splitting wood. Maybe a hike through the snowy woods if I have time. But working in the garden brings a whole new set of muscles into shape.
Right now I just feel thick and heavy. I haven't gained enough weight to change sizes. I have big manly biceps and a soft middle. ugh.
Once the garden starts coming in, I'll drop 20 lbs without even thinking about it. In fact, last year, Big Sis' pediatrician thought something was wrong with her because of her rapid weight loss. It was difficult to make the dr. understand our way of life. Hauling dirt and compost, digging, hoeing, weeding and planting, eating more fresh foods...the weight just melts away.
Spring had better hurry up!! :)
Oh I can't add to this...it's gonna be 77 here today *sorry* I'm already trying to kill dandelions. I still get a kick out of the smell of fresh cut green grass in February.
I need to drop some major poundage too...where's my bottle of motivation again?
Very good post. I like all your 'heavy' examples. I think the thing is we need that heaviness, we need this time of year. We need to take on and then we need to take off. Oh, don't I sound philosophical. :<)
Vamp, I'm dying of envy here! lol
Nan, you are right, I think, in that this is something we need. Maybe it makes us appreciate spring more? I'm still looking forward to moving south, though. :)
